„After many years of unfulfilled desire to have children, my gynecologist prescribed me a thyroid hormone preparation and three months later it worked.“

What does the thyroid have to do with a desired pregnancy? A physiologically functioning thyroid is important for all other organs of the body. The “right” concentration of thyroid hormone in the blood makes the body feel powerful and healthy and therefore ready for reproduction. Mild hypothyroidism is particularly common in young women and this can signal to the body that it is not ready for pregnancy. A mild substitution with thyroid hormone can often make it possible to fulfill the desire to have children. After pregnancy, regular checks of thyroid function are necessary, as an increase in thyroid hormone replacement sometimes makes sense if the fetus is thriving. After birth, the substitution can be reduced again and, in some cases, stopped again.
