Various outpatient procedures such as the removal of tumors on the skin and subcutaneous tissue (especially lipomas, atheromas, birthmarks) and scar corrections or the treatment of ingrown toenails can largely be carried out on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia in my practice.

I have a large lipoma on my back, can it be removed on an outpatient basis?
Whether an outpatient procedure is possible, depends on the individual findings. Small lipomas, birthmarks, most atheromas, and scars can easily be treated on an outpatient basis. Large lipomas, especially if they are not easily movable, can be heavily adhered to the underlying tissue and should therefore be treated with a short general-anesthesia.
